Supporting Miaoli students on their learning journeys is a core commitment for Formosa 2. This summer, we partnered with Dingpu Elementary School in Zhunan to host the "Insect Ecology Summer Camp." Guided by professional instructors, third to sixth graders explored local biodiversity through engaging presentations and field observations, embedding the concepts of conservation and sustainability within the school community. 

During the camp, instructors led the students to observe insects up closeThe children learned fundamental insect traits and discovered how these amazing creatures adapt and evolve in nature. Stepping into the shoes of “ecological investigators,” students put their knowledge into practice by setting safe traps and using field survey methods to explore the diverse species around them. 

Bridging outdoor exploration with technology, the camp empowered students to snap detailed photos of their discoveries and upload them to the digital biodiversity database, iNaturalist. By using AI image recognition to identify species, the students enjoyed an enriched learning experience that combined hands-on fun with digital literacy.

To wrap up the experience, the students made their own insect specimens and gained insight from instructors on their scientific research value. Over the two-day camp, we sparked the children's curiosity about the natural world through hands-on science and field observationdeepening their understanding of biodiversity while encouraging them to take action for a sustainable future.
