Miaoli, Taiwan – July 21, 2025 – Formosa 2 Wind Power (Formosa 2) has reinforced its long-standing commitment to the local fisheries community by donating an additional 250 inflatable life jackets to the Nanlong District Fishermen’s Association (NFA). This follows the 200 jackets provided last year, bringing the total to 450. The ceremony, held on July 21, was attended by Formosa 2 CEO Nuta Chen, Health, Safety and Environment Manager Roger Lo, NFA Chairman Tie-Lin Liu, and Secretary-General Te-Kun Yan, together with dozens of local fishermen.

As part of Taiwan’s offshore wind development, Formosa 2 is committed not only to complying with regulatory requirements but also to acting as a proactive partner for the fishing community. The donation of certified SOLAS, EC, and CCS-certified inflatable life jackets reflects the company’s continued investment in practical safety equipment, helping ensure fishermen are better protected while working under challenging conditions at sea.

Chairman of the NFA, Tie-Lin Liu, thanked Formosa 2 for its concern and support for the safety of local fishermen.

Addressing a High-Risk Industry

Taiwan’s geographical location along the typhoon belt makes its seas unpredictable, often subjecting fishermen to unstable weather, rough waves, and poor visibility. According to official data, the rate of occupational accidents in the fishing industry is more than four times higher than the national average. The absence of proper safety equipment, particularly life jackets, significantly increases the risk of serious incidents in adverse conditions.

Recognizing these challenges, Formosa 2 has worked closely with the NFA to provide long-term, tangible safety support for fishermen. By equipping every member of the NFA with a reliable life jacket, the company aims to reduce risks and enhance resilience in the face of unexpected events.

Collaboration Beyond Donation

At the donation ceremony, Formosa 2 invited the supplier to conduct a hands-on demonstration, ensuring that fishermen not only receive life jackets but also understand how to use and maintain them effectively. Fishermen practiced correct wearing techniques and learned maintenance tips to maximize the equipment’s reliability in emergencies. This practical training helped strengthen fishermen’s safety awareness and readiness, empowering them to respond calmly and effectively at sea.

Formosa 2 CEO Nuta Chen emphasized the company’s vision:
"By donating life jackets, we aim to provide every fisherman with the essential protection needed at sea. Formosa 2 is dedicated to a long-term partnership with NFA, listening to and responding to their needs, standing alongside fishermen, and working together toward a safer and more sustainable future."

Formosa 2 CEO Nuta Chen emphasized the company’s commitment to partnering with local fishermen in support of sustainable development.

NFA Secretary-General De-Kun Yan also expressed appreciation:
"We sincerely appreciate Formosa 2’s long-term partnership and dedication to fishermen’s safety. Since 2024, they have donated a total of 450 life jackets, giving every fisherman access to lightweight and reliable safety gear. This support has greatly enhanced our safety at sea and helped us feel more confident when handling emergencies. We look forward to continuing this close collaboration for the benefit of our community."

Building a Sustainable Future Together

Formosa 2’s support extends beyond providing safety equipment. We work closely with local associations, government agencies, and academic institutions to promote coastal clean-up initiatives and marine education programs, advancing its commitment to marine sustainability. By combining community engagement with practical contributions—Formosa 2 fosters collaboration to safeguard Taiwan’s valuable marine resources while enhancing the safety and wellbeing of local fishermen.
