This January, Formosa 2 partnered with Dingpu Elementary School in Zhunan, Miaoli, to host the "Climate Change and Wood Upcycling Workshop". Engaging students from grades 3 to 6, the initiative used hands-on activities to transform abstract climate concepts into concrete actions of resource circulation. Our goal is to root environmental education deeply in schools, ensuring sustainability is practiced, not just preached.
Centered on the themes of "Climate Change" and "Waste Wood Regeneration", the curriculum aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Students were guided to explore the link between global warming and waste management through the lens of their daily lives, understanding that sustainability is built upon our everyday choices.
The workshop integrated safety training, design planning, and woodworking. Students learned the importance of upcycling and extending product lifecycles to reduce carbon emissions. With creativity and teamwork, they sanded, assembled, and transformed discarded wood into unique, handmade "pinball machines." This process allowed children to experience the value of a circular economy firsthand while developing problem-solving skills and a spirit of collaboration.

Over the course of the two-day workshop, students deepened their understanding of climate change and explored ways to reduce resource consumption starting from their own campus. These hands-on experiences cultivated essential literacy in resource circulation, laying a solid foundation for a "Sustainable Campus”.
We believe that with every lesson learned and every upcycled project completed, the seeds of sustainability are taking root in these children's hearts. Sustainability is no longer just a concept; it is a beautiful practice in school life and a vital force driving a greener future.
