Formosa 2 is jointly developed by Stonepeak (51%) and JeraNex (49%), with a total installed capacity of 376 MW. All 47 wind turbines were installed by January 2023 and achieved full grid connection in March the same year. The project reached its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on September 8, 2023, officially entering the operations and maintenance (O&M) phase. Formosa 2 is expected to supply clean electricity to approximately 380,000 households annually.
Formosa 2 is deeply committed to advancing localization within Taiwan’s offshore wind industry. During the construction phase, we collaborated closely with several local consultancies—including Unitech, CECI, and Sinotech—to manage permitting processes and the design of onshore electrical systems.
Now in the O&M phase, we continue to work with local partners such as CECI and Sinotech to support ongoing operations. This long-term engagement demonstrates our strong local execution capabilities and our dedication to becoming a leading force in Taiwan’s offshore wind sector.
Formosa 2 is also committed to cultivating talent for the offshore wind industry. From 2018 to 2024, we have partnered with National United University to establish the "Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Expertise Program”, offering scholarships to support students pursuing careers in renewable energy. During the construction phase, we trained local fishermen to serve as marine mammal observers.
Now, in the O&M phase, we are supporting the transition of these local fishermen shift into the offshore wind workforce by training them as wind farm inspection technicians—fostering a sustainable and inclusive energy future.
Formosa 2 also actively collaborates with academic institutions such as National Cheng Kung University and National Taiwan Ocean University on environmental initiatives. These efforts include wetland restoration and fisheries resource research in the Miaoli coastal and sea area, with a focus on monitoring changes in local fishery structures and promoting long-term ecological conservation and marine sustainability.
Project Milestones
Formosa 2 successfully obtained the System Impact Analysis (SIA) with Taiwan Power Company YingPan substation, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, the Establishment Permit (EP) and Construction Permit (CP) process with approval from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and secured the support of Taiwan Power Company under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Formosa 2 completed all foundation installations in 2022. All 47 turbine installations were completed in January 2023 and all turbines have been connected to the grid since March 2023.
